Corporate Innovation

New Venture Development

The graduate certificate in corporate innovation is focused on managing innovation within an established organization.

The certificate may be obtained by completing 9 credit hours of study as detailed below:

  • ENTP 6388 (SYSM 6361) Corporate Innovation – Entrepreneurial Strategies (required)
  • ENTP 6375 Technology Strategies and New Product Development (required)
  • One additional course selected from the following list:
  • ENTP 6380 (MKT 6380) Market Entry Strategies
  • ENTP 6398 (SYSM 6315) The Corporate Entrepreneurial Experience

The graduate certificate in new venture development is focused on learning to launch new a business.

The certificate may be obtained by completing 9 credit hours of study as detailed below:

  • ENTP 6370 Innovation and Entrepreneurship (required)
  • ENTP 6390 Business Model Innovation (required)
  • One additional course selected from the following list:
  • ENTP 6378 Scaling New Ventures
  • ENTP 6360 Startup Launch I or ENTP 6365 Business Concept Validation
  • ENTP 6380 Market Entry Strategies

Application to the IE Certificate Program

Students already enrolled in a graduate degree program in JSOM are automatically eligible to enroll in any ENTP course if they meet the course prerequisites. However, under the new JSOM guidelines, both degree-seeking and non-degree seeking students must separately apply to and be admitted to the IE certificate programs using the JSOM Certificate Programs page

However, under the new JSOM guidelines, both degree-seeking and non-degree seeking students must separately apply to and be admitted to the IE certificate programs using the JSOM Certificate Programs page.

Both the Corporate Innovation and New Venture certificates require nine semester credit hours of coursework.

Degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students must complete six semester credit hours of the required certificate coursework before applying for graduation with a certificate. You must apply before the first day of your last required course.

Email Gwen Ellison, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Administrator, at gwen.ellison@utdallas.edu, and request to be made eligible to receive your certificate. She will check your transcript to ensure you have completed and passed your required courses. Remember to pay attention to all due dates associated with acquiring your certificate.

Plan your courses very carefully with advising or the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program Director. We recommend you apply only after you have confirmed that the courses you need will be available during the time you will be in school. The key is planning ahead.

Yes! MSIE students must apply for the certificate program before the first day of their first certificate course and apply for certificate graduation the semester before the first day of their last required course.

No. Both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students must be accepted into the certificate program and then apply for certificate graduation in the semester before graduating. We recommend putting all deadlines for applying for and graduating with a certificate in your calendar.
