Fall 2023 Internship with Foundation Pain and Spine
This past semester, I had the incredible opportunity to work at Foundation Pain and Spine (FPS) as a medical assistant for Dr. Thompson. During this internship, I gained invaluable experience in both patient care and medical procedures. My responsibilities included a mix of clinical and administrative tasks such as collecting patient vitals, scheduling, sterilizing procedure instruments, and completing insurance claims. Being able to work directly with patients and providers reignited my interest in the healthcare industry.
The guidance and mentorship I received from FPS, especially our Office Manager Ana F., were crucial in expanding my medical knowledge and refining my communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals. While initially overwhelming, the supportive staff and Ana made the fast-paced environment manageable. Ana consistently provided extra time and opportunities for training, helping me build confidence in my skills. This experience not only reinforced my passion for healthcare but also offered practical insights into healthcare management. Working at FPS exposed me to diverse professional networks, including providers, medical representatives, emergency medical technicians, and medical suppliers. The skills acquired during my internship will undoubtedly benefit my future in healthcare management, solidifying my commitment to the industry.
I am extremely appreciative of the relationships I’ve built with my patients and value being able to see that my help has genuinely made a positive impact on others. I’m excited to continue with my career journey and am undoubtedly grateful for all the opportunities and experiences FPS has provided me.
