Fall 2024 Internship with Southwestern Health Resources
Southwestern Health Resources (SWHR) is a patient centered, Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) formed between UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) and Texas Health Resources (THR) with more than 7,000+ providers caring for over 790,000 patients, 31 hospitals, and over 650+ outpatient facilities and clinics across 14 counties over North Texas. In 2023, SWHR ranked third nationally in total savings among 132 participating ACOs in the Accountable Care Organization Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health (ACO REACH) Model. SWHR realized nearly $81 million in gross savings to the Medicare Trust fund, scoring 100% on the quality score.
Over the last 8 years, I have had the pleasure of working for SWHR in a few different roles; starting as a Referral Coordinator, becoming a Supervisor for Referral Management over 44 employees and managing 2 different geographical zones, and now a Business Development Network Manager for Network Performance. As a Business Development Network Manager, I monitor network performance metrics and standards and will develop collaborative relationships and rapport with SWHR PCPs, providers and key stakeholders for Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Hunt, and Ellis County.
This year I was involved in the Advanced Payment Option (APO) Model project for SWHR. This was my first year contracting for the 2025 season and it was projected to bring in $30 million in savings. To be part of the SWHR preferred network, labs, post-acute facilities, Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) provide SWHR with a discount on its Traditional Medicare population. SWHR works with these preferred providers with access and these facilities can earn back incentives if they meet certain quality metrics. Throughout the year, I will manage the relationships with the Vice Presidents, key stakeholders, and liaisons specific to the ASCs, labs, and specialty hospitals. The APO agreements must be resigned on a yearly basis so it’s imperative to maintain these relationships with preferred providers.
