Spring 2024 Internship with Clinical Pathology Laboratory
My name is Priyanka Patel. I am a senior year student studying Healthcare Management at JSOM. I recently joined the Clinical Pathology Laboratory as a Laboratory assistant. Since I started this journey, I’ve been learning how my academic knowledge can be applied to solve real-world work problems.
I would like to share my experience of learning from my mentor Ashley Hill, and Supervisor Annie Ballew who guided me in enhancing not only my technical skills but also taught me the importance of paying attention to detail and continuous learning. I learned how to process specimens correctly and follow lab procedures diligently. With their guidance, I became proficient in identifying the appropriate containers and storage conditions for various tests. I improved my data entry accuracy and learned to adhere to departmental policies.
This experience has not only enhanced my lab skills but also prepared me for future roles. I am grateful for the mentorship and eager to apply these learnings in my career. This internship has been a success, and I’m proud of my lab skills. “Thank you, JSOM, for the guidance of education and knowledge that helped me achieve success in my career.” I am always thankful to all the professors and advisors at The University of Texas at Dallas “I am deeply grateful to Kristin Tesmer for her invaluable assistance in securing this internship. Kristin’s commitment and expertise were crucial in helping me reach my goals. I am extremely thankful for her constant support.”
