Healthcare Management Student at UT Dallas
Spring 2024 Internship with Scottish Rite for Children
Scottish Rite for Children is a nonprofit pediatric center with three locations across North Texas. It specializes in orthopedic care, specifically for children with musculoskeletal conditions, such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hip disorders, and other orthopedic issues. Their mission is to improve the lives of children, through their expert medical care, research, and education.
This semester I was fortunate enough to be an Administration Intern at their Frisco location. This location is an ambulatory surgical center, with an emphasis on sports medicine. Through this internship I was able to apply concepts from my education into the healthcare industry. This was a truly remarkable experience, and will benefit me for the rest of my career. I was able to gain insight on how my degree concepts play out in a healthcare setting, and insight into the healthcare industry as whole.
As an Administration Intern, I was able to work on a variety of different projects across multiple departments such as; financial reporting, volunteer training, and various research assignments. Not only was I able to gain experience in the administrative side of a healthcare facility, I was able to gain insight into the clinical operations of Scottish Rite. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the different clinical departments and witness their operations such as; sports medicine, general orthopedics, imaging, and orthotics and prosthetics. Through my experience, I gained valuable experience in communicating with upper-level management as well as a deeper understanding of how a healthcare facility operates.
Being apart of an organization that is as remarkable as Scottish Rite was truly a one of a kind experience. The warm welcomes I was met with everyday, the joy of the employees as well as the patients, and seeing the remarkable work that is being done there is something I will never forget. Working under Jeremy Howell, Vice President, was a great privilege and I could not have asked for a better advisor. He was always willing to take time out of his very busy schedule to meet with me, and ensured that my internship was as beneficial to my career as possible. I will forever be thankful for Jeremy, and the other amazing people at Scottish Rite for giving me this opportunity and making it as great as it was.
